Eligibility Requirements

Applications are open to Charlevoix County Residents

Persons who are in need of assistance from the CMA
must meet the following requirements that are needed prior to their appointments.
There are NO exceptions.

  • A current Driver's License or State ID will be needed.

  • A copy of the actual late bill, Notice to Vacate, or lease agreement/Move-In Letter is needed to receive assistance; handwritten notes and informal lease agreements from landlords, creditors, or handwritten bills are not acceptable. This includes short, one-page typed leases. Please note: Landlord/Management Company contact info (address AND phone number) ARE required. If you do not have both of these, CMA is unable to help you.

  • Family-to-family, or friend-to-friend leases in the same household are NOT acceptable, and we will be unable to approve any requests made that fit that description.

  • A completed intake form is needed. This is available on location. Please arrive 5 minutes early to complete this form.

  • You MUST be a resident of Charlevoix County to qualify for assistance.

  • If your utilities have already been shut off, CMA will be unable to assist you due to the added fees that we cannot cover.

  • If you are looking to pay off your utilities before moving out of housing, we are unable to help with those bills as our fund is meant to help people who are in danger of losing current access to their utilities.

  • We are unable to help with the repairs of vehicles or other modes of transportation.

  • Please note that if you are a return applicant who has applied for assistance within the prior 12 months of your current request, you might not be eligible for further assistance until 12 months from your last assistance. Please call our office to determine eligibility.

  • If you do not meet all of the above requirements, the CMA will be unable to assist you and your appointment will be canceled until such time as you do have the required documentation.
